Random thoughts after visit to Peacehaven

We were at Peacehaven Nursing Home this morning. We did chapel service at HOPE centre, second level. We have not done chapel in this section for some time. Here we encountered residents in different stages of dementia.

We chatted with the carers - nurses and therapists. God bless these folk the majority are from foreign countries like the Philippines, China, India, Myanmar. Some are Singaporeans. We just do not have enough local people to do the work.

We spent time with the staff giving them words of encouragment and prayed with some of them.

Of course, we took time to see our youngest daughter Dora Poh Chin so lovingly cared for by the staff. The chaplain, Jimi Tan was there singing and praying with them. Jimi is very caring and to him this is not a job but a calling. He visits the folk regulary to chat with them and prayed with them. I wish this could be said of all our workers, officers or pastors included.

We came away blessed by this caring ministry. Yes, our mission is to save souls, grow saints and care for suffering humanity.

I pray this prayer, Lord help me not lose the vision there there is hope for all mankind.  "Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Proverbs 29: 18. Modern versions translate the word "vision" to "revelation." When we keep close to God He continues to reveal to us what we need to do.

"Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law." NIV
"When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is happy." NLB

One day Helen Keller was asked a question, “What would be worse than being born blind. Her response was “Having sight without a vision.” What a profound statement coming from someone born deaf, dumb and blind. We cannot afford to ignore this truth.

A vision is the ability to see beyond the natural. It includes faith to believe the seemingly impossible. Look at the great men and women of the Bible as recorded in Hebrews 11. They were ordinary people who caught the vision. They were human like us with their faults and failings, but they trusted God, obeyed because God gave them vision.

They dared step out of their comfort zones in faith and courage. Vision is the ability to see into the future. Faith is the ability to believe the impossible. Our vision and our faith will lead to courage to step out of our comfort zone to carry out the task God has given us.

Pastors, evangelists, Christian teachers – don’t let your vision be clouded or blurred by the things of the world.
