A time of quiet reflection

This morning it was house cleaning and laundry, then lunch at our son's place to share fellowship and a meal together. It's a cool day, lovely weather and I'm enjoying it.

Now it is Saturday evening and for me a time of  quiet reflection as I sit at the computer. I'm thinking of tomorrow, the day will begin with Adult Bible class and I shall continue with my series of studies from the Book of Judges. I love my solitude.

After the death of Joshua the nation experienced a period of leadership vacuum. The nation now in Canaan were without a strong central government. It was a period when each man did what was right in his own eyes - weird sort of 'democracy' that some people advocate -a kind of 'freedom' without restraint. Israel entered its dark ages in history.

This Book spans a period of 325 years. It records the six successive periods of oppression and deliverance.

So far I have done 24 lessons and tomorrow will deal with the 25th continuing with the life of Samson, a man with tremendous potential. Sadly in his passion he wasted his life. His strength became his weakness! He wasted his gifts in practical jokes and getting out of scrapes.

What a womaniser! The Bible records three women in his life - the woman from Timnath, the prostitute from Gath and that famous or rather notorious Delilah! A great lesson for us to learn that true strength is measured in how well we control our actions, our attitudes and our appetites.

In life we need to follow God's instructions given through His word the Bible. Thank God He has given us His Spirit to guide us. And there is the church where we have fellowship and learn the things pertaining to Christian living.

Well tomorrow we shall join our fellow believers in God's house. I am looking forward to a time of spiritual refreshment.

"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near." Hebrews 10:25 (New Living Translation)
