Yesterday a group of us went to Food Haven at Dover Road to have a meal. We welcomed Lieutenants Alwin and Dolly to Singapore where they have been appointed to the Team Ministry - covering William Booth Corps, Eratchippu Corps, Bukit Panjang Family Centre. We had good fellowship and enjoyed our meal together.
Today we had cell group meeting at our home. Then at 12 noon we left for Upper East Coast Road to visit Mrs. Foo to celebrate her birthday. She will be 94 tomorrow. Although frail, she is mentally alert.
She and her husband Foo Kia Pang were officers before the war but resigned from officership to work with the Social Welfare Department (now come under MCYS) Mr. Foo was promoted to Glory in 1997.
Mrs. Foo as Esther Lau looked after my wife and her sister when they were young children - ages six and four. We have always kept contact with her and her husband.
Today we met her daughter Marjory from Australia and her grand daughter Chantel from England. The family take turns to look after her. Two children and their families live in Australia, one daughter and her family in Canada, one son and family in England, two sons and their families live near her in Singapore.
Mrs. Foo's faith is strong and gives a wonderful testimony. She belongs to Singapore Central Corps and in fact is the Number 1 on the roll.
We sang "God will take care of you" one of her favourite songs and prayed with her.
We thank God for friends whose lives have enriched us.
