Mrs. Foo (Tan Mook Hiong) soldier of Balestier Corps was promoted to Glory on 16th April. Wake is held every evening at St. Stephen's Church, 30 Sallim Road at 8.00 p.m. -17-19 April. Cortege leaves on Friday 20th April at 11.00 a.m. for funeral service/ cremation at Mandai Crematorium Hall 3 at 12 noon
We were requested by the family to conduct family prayers with the family on the first night. We did the wake on the second night. Patrick one of the sons paid a beautiful tribute to the Mother. We were very touched when he called on the Indonesian maid Mariata to stand up and publicly thanked her for looking after Mrs. Foo for the last eight years. Patrick then asked the rest of the family to stand up and give Mariata a standing ovation. The whole congregation clapped.
Although Mrs. Foo had seven children, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, she chose to live alone at Martaban Road, opposite the old Balestier Corps building (which The Army sold it few years ago. It has been demolished) Mrs.Foo was a faithful soldier of Balestier Corps.
She was one of the those quiet, unassuming ladies who worked behind the scenes. She was always making cakes, or cooked for the Corps to raise funds like Helping Hand etc.
